Freeletics is a Munich-based fitness app that delivers AI-powered, personalized training programs that fit your goals.

No gym, no equipment required. With over 54 million registered users worldwide, it's one of Europe's most recognizable fitness platforms.

“We’ve rebuilt this three times. This cannot continue.”

[Our team, more than once]

Problem

Freeletics was four apps: nutrition, bodyweight, running, and weights. To bring weights into one app, we copied what we had and built on top. It took six to eight months, and the experience was terrible.

  • Every new training type meant another rebuild, about six months each time
  • Each rebuild made the new type fit the old app, so the next one was just as hard
  • Freeletics couldn’t add new kinds of training fast enough to keep up

Key contributions

  • Mapped and helped build the information architecture for workouts, so any exercise and any type of training work together, built for hyper-personalized training.
  • Created a modular UI system for training, so the interface could scale to any type of training without new screens.
  • Tested the logic with backend engineers against running, yoga and anything we’d add next.
